Travelling with a checked bag can save so much hassle when packing, letting you bring more gear that you’ll need but its not always easy to travel with a big bag, here are the pros and cons.

Pro

  • Travelling allows you to get more in your bag if you’re travelling through many climates
  • Bringing a larger bag means you can carry a few more comforts from home, like your favourite shampoo and conditioner
  • Travelling with a big bag has let me go places further into the wilderness that a small bag would have made nearly impossible as gear would never fit in my carry on
  • Larger bags allow you to buy a few souvenirs you might not be able to pick up otherwise
  • Having a larger bag means you can attach a day bag and only carry one bag on your back and have an extra for day trips

Con

  • Having a large bag can lead many to over pack
  • Having a big bag means having to wait to check in and grab it when leaving an airport or at a bus terminal
  • Travelling with a large bag has kept me from different things, like getting a tattoo because I was concerned the friction would hurt as the placement was near my straps (in hindsight I’m not 100% with the fact this is a con, but I added it here)
  • There a chance your baggage might be damaged by staff or by equipment, as we all know they’re not gentle with our luggage
  • When you pick up souvenirs with big bags and don’t place them properly there’s a chance they could be damaged
